How (and why) to remaster an already profitable F2P game
Let's discuss video games remasters. And not just any remasters, but a F2P titles. Since the original game is free, the remastered version, in which the team must invest a lot of effort, will also be free for players as part of an update. What’s the value for the developer then?
At Pixonic, we found ourselves in the same situation: our flagship project, the multiplatform PvP shooter War Robots, was released in 2014 and then remastered in 2020. Dima Osipov, the producer of that remastered version, tells why we decided to update our free-to-play game — a game which was already making good money — and how we approached the pre-production of this ambitious project.
